today was our first day at modelling Ms. Wettstein's Guided Reading. Let's just say, I'm super excited about it. Though today was lengthy and frustrating, I think that after a week or so, we will have it down. I was teaching whole-group so much--and it was literally soooo overwhelming/exhausting everyday. I feel like I am just getting my schedule down. I keep changing things based on my kids attention spans etc. Their brains are completely worthless after specials at the end of the day. I've got to figure out what to do with them...

also: even though I'm sitting at Lipscomb wanting to die, I'm okay, because tomorrow is Friday and we are gonna make it.

Funny things:

Marcos wore a 3 piece suit to school today.

I'm pretty sure Larry tried to kiss Su Sana right in front of me.

Larry asked me why I looked like a boy yesterday (I was wearing a button up).

Daniel ripped his pants. Like legit ripped at the crotch. Huge whole. Spider themed tighty whiteys. He was kinda not upset. He just wanted to keep playing on the playground and begged/cried/pleaded with me not to call his mom and send him home. Obviously when he ran back to the playground and jumped around, his rip widened substantially. When I called for everyone to line up, Daniel's everything was visual. It's a testament to my kids how much they know their classmate and how much they care about each other that no one laughed or pointed. After we go to recess we go straight to the water fountain. It's a 10ish minute ordeal, so after they get water they go and sit down on the red line in the middle of the hallway.

Clearly Daniel (who is super overweight) could not sit down because of his pants ripped down below his knee. So Marcos said, "Mista Turna I be Daniel's friend and stand with him" and tries to put his arm around sooo much larger Daniel and tell him he his friend and not to worry. Meanwhile Daniel just keeps chiming in, "Ms Turner. Marcos my friend. Yea. He my friend."

It made me so happy I wanted to cry. There have been many cases like this in my classroom in the last 6 days. It's always immanent and beautiful.

But back to Daniel's pants: We go to Ms. Trainors room to get pants. NONE fit. We try on lotsssssss. So I'm like okay, I have a room full of 1st graders and I dont care if your pants are undone all the way down. Let's go do math.

Daniel didnt care either. Which is why I think he's going to be S-Teamed pretty soon. :(

Two days ago: Jakari stayed after to help me rearrange my room two days ago. We were talking about something naturally non-related when he blurted out that his mom says bad words. When I asked what kind of bad words, he said "Hush" and "Shut up" and "Stupid." I explained that even though we don't say those words in Ms. Turner's class, sometimes adults say them and they are not necessarily bad. Jakari replied, "But Ms. Turner! My mom say Fuck Ms. Turner all the time."

It was all I could do to not laugh and try to correct the language within the quotation of his mother.

I called my mom and she burst out laughing. Jakari has no idea what I've said about his mother...

Last Friday: Jakari came up to me at recess with his shorts pulled up, saying he had hurt his knee. I said show me. There wasnt much of anything there, but he was super concerned, so I did a lot more reassuring and then got teacherish and exasperatedly said, "Jakari, your're okay. Now, put your pants down." His mouth dropped. And he just stared at me. And then said... "Ms. Turner, nooooooooooo."

The teacher next to me died LAUGHING.

wow this week went by so fast.

I have been anxiously awaiting today. I know that alot of Americans are going to be glued to this game and I of course am no different. Soccer is my sport. These boys are the thing for me.

I've loved Landon Donovan for so long. I'll never forget walking into our hotel in Birmingham for yet another soccer tournament and the US men's team standing there. That was so long ago... but Thaps got Donovan to sign her shoe and ketchup bottle. It was awesome, but that was way before our men's team was even close to awesome.

That was before Tim Howard and Altidore and Dempsey. That was before the Confederations Cup. Spain. and World Cup Qualifiers.

Today. is. huge.

I recognize that this is embarrassing, but I have already cried today. I was watching the special on Tim Howard and how he was born with Turrets. and then the interview with his wife. Espn asked his wife if she was nervous about a potential shoot out for today. She said "No. Normally that's a scary thing for a keeper (keeper's wife) but I know how good my husband is."

And I started crying in the AT& T store. For most of the people that are into the world cup right now, they don't really know how good Howard is. The fact that we have arguably one of the top 3 keepers in the world holding down the net is our greatest strength and greatest means of success. Howard saves our ass so much and for those of you who haven't been watching very much soccer previous to group play, I'll fill you in: He's solid. His form is impeccable. And he reacts quicker than anyone else. You can tell by the way he moves how intuitive his defenses are. they are organic and it's awesome.

I hope we outright win today, but I am not scared if we blow through the 2 fifteen minute extra halves and Howard posts up in goal for Pk's.

Ahhhh I had such a great weekend. It's so wonderful––going home and doing nothing. I told jake and friends, I'd see them next weekend, and I haven't necessarily written "driving all the way back again" off. Though KK and I only survived at the pool for an hour, I have never felt more relaxed.

Saturday was the best day of all though: Watching the world cup with my favorites, drinking beer, eating at Burger Up, taking a nap, laying out, watching transformers, reading, going out, watching Fantastic Mr. Fox... ohhhh I loved it.

Ok, I think I will try to locate something online to watch and then I will be calling it a day.

5am is NEVER not early. no matter when you go to bed.

i know this is 2009 RTW but I love the mixing of flowers with much harder pieces. it makes going out soft and girly but also edgy. whether a skirt, belt, or intensely leather shoes, I'm a fan.

oh wow. I haven't posted in forever, and I just did a breeze through and the majority of my last posts were about shoes. I promise, for now at least, we are done with shoes.

So last week I graduated. Commencement is always a big deal at Vanderbilt. Which to be honest, it should be. There are a lot of events/parties, geared towards the parents that are kinda equivalent to "thanks for the 200 grand over the last four years, it was worth it, and here's a party to prove it." Regardless though, it was fun. A bit stressful at times, but fun.

We went to graduation dinner at Lime. Which was fun/interesting. My dad is just very much not the same as he used to be and its just weird. I know he and Jason had gotten into it before the rest of us had gotten there. and i know Jake was kind of on edge for the whole time.

Honestly, its so much better when both my parents arent involved in things together.

The whole turner family dynamic is dead, and there isnt really a new one.

My grandparents gave me money for graduation. And it was alot more than what they can afford and I started crying like a baby at the table. They have been the single force of stability in my family, and I just know that I could not function as a "Turner" without them.

Yes, they are my dad's parents but they are my moms too. they live around the corner in Chevaux and we are with them all the time. Jake always says that they are the best people on the planet. And that my grandfather is sooo great and awesome. and I wholeheartedly agree. They will do anything for the grandkids. And I know thats true for most grandparents, but seriously, they do it everyday. I love them so much. And I think they are so fantastic.

After Lime we went to Saucer. Will Peeples, my new favorite human (who also just got into Vandy law), my friends and their parents, and my dad, Jason, Jake, and Kaley. My dad left eventually and also left us kinda spinning over some of the stuff he had said. But then it turned into Jake's birthday which he seemed to thoroughly enjoy.

He's the thing for me, ya know.

Commencement morning (we had been praying for the rain to hold off) was soooooo hot and muggy. I literally have never been so sweaty in my whole life. Its just sad because I cant stand most of the pics from graduation because I look soooo gross and sticky.

but I walked across the stage, shook Zeppos hand, and it was worth it. SOOOO worth it.

then everyone but Kaley and Jase left. and it became Jake's birthday for realllz.

On Saturday, I said goodbye to the G-35. and hello to a new 2010 Honda Accord.

and now I'm in Little Rock. which if you hadn't heard is wedding centralclustercuss. Honestly, three people from my graduating class are getting married this weekend, and though I am beyond excited for Tay's wedding and standing up there with her, the statistics kinda make me want to vom.

ALSO: I have had Firehouse 2 days in a row. And I will argue with anyone in the world that it kicks Subway, Jimmy Johns, Lennys (barf), and Quiznos asssssss. Though I am shocked and sad that my Markham/Chenal one closed. Im also sad Fernau closed. and that little rock closes things at 10 in general.

this is a really pathetic attempt at blogging, but really this is the only interesting thing that I've done in weeks. Ok, not really but definitely. I ordered these from Topshop for my mom's wedding. Topshop and I forgot for a few months that we were best friends. but we're back. yay!

do you ever have those days where you know you haven't smiled? I don't know why. But that's how I've been today. The worst part of it though, is that I know it. I know I'm frowning--- perpetually frowning. I know that Jake has every reason to be annoyed at my mood, and that I really have no reason to be so down and pissed off today. but I am.

These days happen. I don't really get it. I think it has to do with traffic and inefficiency and being in my car way too much, too much asphalt, too hot outside.... or its trying to recite to my boyfriend all the things that I have to do in the next two weeks. hearing him say, shit, sarah. and then realizing that I left out a fourth paper and a praxis exam.

can this post account for a blanket apology for being a pain in the ass?

Jake always jokes that I'm not fun anymore. It's mostly because I'm exhausted 90% of the time and can't sit still long enough to "hang out" without freaking out about something I should be doing.

I know I started off the year by saying I never want to leave Vanderbilt, but oh my god, I cannot wait for the next 2 weeks to be over with. I have 7 more days of class. and that, actually, makes me smile. alot.

I am taking a brief hiatus from working on my thesis to offer some sage advice. If you are like me, and get really excited about getting in bed early and reading some before going to sleep, PLEASE, be sure that you are not reading The Road. Last night, was 28 days later all over again. I was actually crying I was so scared. I would have called Jake but i was pretty sure he was asleep, and wouldn't be helpful, and I was irrationally terrified of reaching for my phone, which was outside the perimeter of my bed, and therefore in a cannibalistic non-safe zone.
I become uncharacteristically insane when I'm scared. I can't sleep and I wake up in sweats from really terrible dreams.

I was kind of, at first, excited about reading this book and then watching the film. but now, after being 100 pages in, I promise you, I WILL NEVER WATCH THIS MOVIE.

The book, I will finish--it really is beautiful-- just during daylight. with supervision. and I encourage others to read McCarthy, because he really is, as always unbelievable---I love, in particular, the conversations between the boy and his father:

Today has already been exceptional (except for that i think the cd player in the g35 is lost for good) . Jake left for production an hour or so ago, so we decided to get coffee and spend the morning together. Crema coffee is his favorite and now it's mine too. It blows everything else you've ever tasted out of the water.

After sitting on the deck and drinking our iced lattes, Jake showed me around his school and then hopped in a carpool and left.

and then I came home and made some Julia Child's bruschetta.

I'm facing a lonely weekend of thesis writing and I'm not too excited about it.

BUT today--today has been beautiful. :)

I'd like to add an addendum to this post: I went to Anthropologie today, and though I didn't find interview clothes, I did find two pairs of jean leggings!!! and as I grabbed my bag and spun around after checking out, I literally almost smacked into Taylor Swift and her mom. I got the impression she was using one of their personal shoppers. and can i just say, she's like REALLY tall. She was wearing heels, but still, she was towering over me.

anyways, I thought it was cool, and I mouthed a "hey" and then made it my facebook status. naturally.

I haven't posted in awhile, mainly because I have been super busy. I've reached that point of being soooo ready to be done with school, to celebrate weddings, to furnish and decorate the new apt, to see my mom, to trade in the g35, and most importantly, to start teaching.

I couldn't be more proud and excited to be apart of Teach for America. I've been visiting classes this week and I cant wait to have my own: math trees, color coded behavior charts, and everything in between.
